I started with A Study in Scarlet two years ago (only just getting around to the rest now), and to me, it was fun to see the progression of Holmes and Watson's friendship, given how legendary it is. Seeing Holmes in his first appearance, all glad because he just discovered luminol, is just really entertaining to me! So is Watson being told by the friend introducing him to Holmes that he can't blame him if he doesn't like Holmes. It's nice to see their friendship really become something great, and to see how Watson's perceptions of Holmes' abilities change over time.

Basically, I've been going in publication order, though I will admit that it sometimes gets confusing when the stories leap between Watson being married, then Watson's bachelor days, etc. If there's a reliable timeline out there and you want to read them in the order of the storyline, I'd say it couldn't hurt, but I've been fine puzzling out the storyline through publication order! :)Traihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06187991154030955086noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8743990926051606121.post-84918323844983194492010-12-31T09:32:09.814-05:002010-12-31T09:32:09.814-05:00I plan to read The Complete Sherlock Holmes in 201...I plan to read The Complete Sherlock Holmes in 2011, and my big question was: "What order should I read it in?" I know there is a debate about whether or not to read it in chronological order of publication or chronological order of story-line, or not chronological at all.

What's your suggestion? :)Roof Beam Readerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06792884580084363046noreply@blogger.com
